Life is a cabaret, my friend, come to the cabaret - or in this case, carnival atmosphere protests to bring down the government in Thailand.
There is a 65/35 split in favor of the Thaksinites, the party in power that has learned to play politics and has thus garnered the vote of the rural, impovershed north of Thailand. The city 'elite' , named the democrats, wishes to do away with democracy as they perceive no other way of getting to power, aspiring to be as corrupt as those currently in power are.....
And in between timing our Sky Train trips to points not in the protesters paths, we've watched the carnival proceed and watched:
Money for Nothing (only this is Thailand and while the chicks are not for free, they come, I am told, pretty damned cheaply!). This is about the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank and predicts dire consequences for the U.S. economy. I agree, but the movie is not as earth shaking as it perhaps could be. Yeah, it is worthwhile viewing for someone else to watch it but I definitely would not see it again.
12 Years a Slave. Incredible story. This is the award winning type of film. Yes, I would see this one again.
American Hustle. I saw it on 2 January in the theater.....then, last night, again, 14 January, as a pirate DVD. I would see it again! Phenomenal ensemble cast performances.....and that means fantastic direction!!!
